Time flies when you're having fun...and boy, has it flown by! Thursday, February 12th is my two year anniversary here at WTAP.
What a 2 years it has been! Aside from anchoring a sportscast (although I've shot a football game or two in my time here), I've been fortunate enough to get a chance to do every job in our newsroom!
I started as a weekend reporter, who learned to do weather...and then produce, and then anchor. From Daybreak on down, I've been involved at some point with each and every show on both WTAP and Fox Parkersburg. I'm lucky because it's given me a pretty realistic understanding...and expectation level...of what we do here, and what we're capable of doing now and in the future.
Being the weekend anchor was definitely the hardest job I had, and perhaps, in the same breath, the most rewarding. Fox Parkersburg is certainly the most fun- Surfin' with Kirk makes it that much better! But naturally, I've enjoyed the 6 & 11 o'clock shows the most. It's such a different format from anything else we air- for the most part it's all local, all the time. Only on REALLY slow days do I include a national story...and that's pretty amazing! I am proud that we are able to generate enough local news and information to fill up about 10-15 minutes each night with events and issues that are affecting YOU, the viewer.
It's my eighth month anchoring WTAP's 6 & 11 o'clock newscast, with many more months yet to come. I hope I continue to grow and learn just as much as I have since that first day, February 12, 2007.
Happy Anniversary to me!
