The Winner of American Idol Is…

Courtney Rochon's American Idol Pick

Adam Lambert!  Well, at least that’s my early prediction*.  As a faithful and borderline obsessed Idol viewer, I love trying to predict from the beginning who is going to be a superstar.  I’ve always loved success stories.  There’s something so magical about witnessing someone living their dream.

OK.. back to Idol.  I haven’t missed a second of Idol this season.  I DVR all of the episodes so I can make sure I see everything (actually it’s more so that I don’t have to watch commercials… shhh.. don’t tell the advertisers!).  There were a few standouts in the audition season (like Leneshe Young who did the awesome rap about my hometown, the ‘Nati, and somehow is not in the Top 36?!?!),  but no one that really blew me away… that is until Adam Lambert sang.  He came in with an edgy look and this confidence that said “I am about to blow you away.”  And he did.  With just a few verses of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody he got his ticket, and enlisted me in the Adam Lambert Fan Club.

We saw little of Adam during the Hollywood Week episodes—just a few seconds when he got through each time.  I think that’s because the producers see Adam going far in the competition and they know it would be ridiculous to even attempt to build drama over whether this guy stays or goes.

I am glad that we are FINALLY into the actual performance portion of Idol and can hear the contestants sing more than a few verses. After Tuesday night’s show, I was reading a recap online and came across a YouTube link to some of Lambert’s prior work.  This kid is the real deal!  He’s been in several Broadway tours and has done a lot of independent music work.  He has an incredibly strong tenor voice, and such a unique style.  This guy is so versatile;  he’s going places—Hopefully as the Next American Idol!

* If Lambert doesn’t win, then my next guess is Danny Gokey.  He’s amazing too.
