Heading Outside in the Springtime

The weather is warming up, and so is the season for long hikes and bike rides!

As much as I love to hit the slopes during winter, I can only be sad for a little bit when that last trace of snow finally melts off the mountains. As soon as those spring temperatures start coming back I know I can start exploring for new places to hike again!

During my first year here in the Mid-Ohio Valley I managed to discover some fantastic state parks with hiking and biking trails. Some of the highlights were definitely walking along the ridges and the river at North Bend State park, discovering what's left of an old house on the top of a trail at Mountwood park, and biking through the tunnels on the North Bend Rail Trail. Of course I also had fun with the randomness that is the Big Muskie Bucket and Ohio's Smallest Church. Both provided endless photo opportunities!  (As you can see from the picture of the Big Muskie Bucket making me look very very tiny.)

But by far my favorite was definitely Old Man's Cave at Hocking Hills. Wow! I had heard it was a nice place to hike but I was blown away by how beautiful it was! I made two trips out there last summer and I certainly plan on making many more this year.

So what are your favorite places to hike and bike around the Mid-Ohio Valley? I would love to find some new places to wander around this year so let me know of somewhere you think I should check out!
