As much as I love hiking and biking and being outside whenever possible, rainy weeks like this one don't really make for great conditions for those outdoor activities. That's when I turn my attention to the kitchen and try to create a new specialty!
In college I was always the only one of my roommates who dared to actually cook dinner in our kitchen. But I know the rest of the girls always appreciated it when they magically had some food to come home to after classes! Now, cooking has turned from a necessity into a creative outlet for me. I love thinking of new spins to put on classic recipes, or trying something new out of my cookbook, or attempting to figure out how to make a dish at one of my favorite restaurants.
Our weekly cooking segment with Chef Yancy on Daybreak has definitely helped with my cooking skills quite a bit! As much fun as we have cooking with Chef Yancy, he's great for giving me new recipe ideas, or even just thinking of a twist to try on a recipe to make it like a whole new meal.
Of course, I still run into some problems in the kitchen from time to time. The most notably being when I locked myself out of it with cookies in the oven! Luckily a jog down the street and a quick thinking landlord helped save those cookies (and the kitchen) from disaster!
I'm sure there will be many more failure and successes as I continue with my adventures in the kitchen. Hopefully more successes than failures, because I know everyone is enjoying that sugar rush from the cookies in the newsroom today!
