A Bittersweet Day

Cathleen Moxley talks about Fathers' Day and all the memories it brings.

Fathers' Day is wonderful for those who get to spend time with their dads, make or buy them gifts and just tell them how much they really mean.

That's what it used to be for me until my dad passed away when I was sixteen.

However, it's no longer a day that depresses me; but instead brings back a ton of good memories!

I thought in this week's blog I'd share a poem I wrote about my dad my freshman year of college in a literature class.

For those like me who no longer have their fathers, just remember all the good times. And for those who still have their dads, savor every moment!

So dad, this one's for you.....

I’ll never forget that tragic day
When Heaven’s gates opened and beckoned you in
My smile left my face, my joy left my soul
I never thought I’d see happiness again
The sun was bright, but it seemed so gloomy
The sky was blue, but it seemed so gray
Who can I turn to, who listens like you,
Who will walk me down the aisle on my wedding day?
My wonderful world had turned upside down
Life was no longer a walk in the park
No more adventures, no more advice
I felt standing all alone in the dark
But time goes on and I’m learning to cope
I’ll carry a part of you with me throughout my years
People who knew you see you in me
And knowing you still love me helps me wipe away the tears
