It's Happening Again

Everyone gets stressed out when the snow flies. But why? What do they want?

This is my personal blog, and not the opinion of the station, nor anyone else, except myself. IT IS NOT A NEWS STORY!

I was at dinner when a family walked by.

Immediately, the talk turned to weather, and they all wanted to know how much snow was on the way.

The kids pretty much just wanted to know if there was going to be school tomorrow. But the parents wanted to know the depth of snow...and when it was coming.

"Is it going to be here in the morning, or by noon?"

"The advisory starts at 8 a.m. and then continues through 7 p.m.  The bulk of the snow is likely afternoon," I replied.

"Oh, that's too bad.  That means that school will be on... ",  suggested the older teen.

"But they could release you early," I suggested.  And I imagined an early release announcement in the works.

"Oh they won't do that.   Once we're there, we'll be stuck, and it'll take forever to get home."

"Maybe they will take that into consideration," I suggested.

"Naw, it always goes that way. Why couldn't you make it snow earlier?" complained the older teen.

It occurred to me that no matter what I said, they weren't going to be satisfied.  If it snowed too early, school wouldn't be canceled. Too late, and school would be in session. And if not enough, then they'd be in school all day long.

I was just Mr. Popularity, I guess.

As they walked out, and I resumed my meal, I wondered why they stopped to talk with me anyway.  What was it that they thought I could do for them as I took my dinner?

I don't make the snow, I don't make the decisions on schools, and I wasn't at the station.

Still, they were drawn to interupt my meal and complain.  Anytime it snows, people go crazy, I guess.
