Ad-Infinitum?

In 30 seconds more or less...

I've been listening, when I can, to the political "experts"/pundits/time-fillers on morning and cable T.V. talking about John McCain's "attack" ads about Barack Obama.

And, I admit, some of them require at least a stretch of the imagination.

Take, for instance, the most recent ad, the one which mentions Obama's celebrity, while showing images of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.

Even considering Obama IS a freshman U.S. Senator, he has a bit more stature than two celebrity "party girls" of questionable or no talent.

(It should be noted, however, that when Obama first announced his candidacy for President last year, several in the media were using phrases such as "rock star" to describe his ability to draw large crowds to political events.)

Before that, there was the ad blaming Obama for the ever-increasing gas prices.  No, Obama isn't specifically to blame for that.  Neither is McCain, as Obama is implying in his "response" ad.  We first heard the words "energy crisis" in 1973, at about the same time McCain was being released from captivity as a prisoner of war.

Before I make my point, I need to make a disclaimer.  Yes, these ads are running on WTAP, as they have been running on stations throughout the country, as well as some national networks.

I don't think these ads, as the "experts" are wondering out loud, that these ads express the candidates as they really are, either the ones "approving these messages", or the ones they're talking about.

Obama, in his speeches, has stated his respect for McCain's service to and sacrifices for the United States.  And McCain, while the "celebrity" ad was being released, acknowledged in a straightforward manner Obama's ability to draw enthusiastic crowds.

Those are the "messages" the public...and the pundits...should be approving.
