You'd better sit down before reading this.

Jim has been swept off his feet by a format change at WTAP
I have been benched....or more accurately chaired.

After 2 years of delivering sports from a standing position, I have been told to take a seat. Its part of a move to change the look of the newscast.

I was dispatched from the mother ship (anchor desk) to my own corner of the studio a few years back.. I had my own flat screen high def TV, but for some reason, I could only get the WTAP sports logo in it. I relished my independence for awhile, but still, there was a void inside me.

I missed the mother ship. Its comfy executive chairs, faux wood top, and the TV screens built right inside the top of the desk. Sitting at the right hand of the anchor, I felt like a vital part of the news team. I could banter with the anchor, play with my script, and walk away with any stray pens carelessly left behind by anchors in pursuit of the next big story.

What's the big difference from delivering the sports sitting rather than standing? Pants. I can now wear my Levis again on casual Fridays. And during those sweltering summer evenings, Bermudas are just what the doctor ordered.

Now to be honest, under this new move, I am not back at the main anchor desk. I have my own anchor annex, just a stones throw away from Lauren. But truth be told, its a mini Cooper compared to the Hummer that is the anchor desk.

It's a step in he right direction, but I look forward to the day, when I'm welcomed back to the mother ship. And can once again earnestly shuffle my script along side the anchor as the news theme music plays us off every night.
