What every happened to....?

Jim blogs about Anthony Lima and his new career move

A question I hear often when I'm out and about is "What every happened to.....(insert name of past WTAP news staffer) ? Over the years dozens of my co-workers have moved on for bigger opportunities both in an out of the television field.

Now we can add sports reporter/anchor  Anthony Lima's name to the list.  Anthony has accepted a job with a regional cable news network in Syracuse New York.    He didn't get a chance to say good bye on the air because he had to use his remaining vacation days up to get organized and move to upstate New York.

It's a good next step in his broadcasting career, and a chance to cover his Alma Mater Syracuse...and this time get paid  for going to the games!

It's almost easier getting elected to the U.S. Senate than to find a reporter/anchor job in television sports.    Job openings are few, and the applicants are many  Before Anthony was hired at WTAP, he had time to go back to school to get his Masters (not the green jacket) degree,  and he had been managing a golf course.

Anthony made a great first impression in his first TV job.   He has a passion for sports and it showed.   He enjoyed covering the games and meeting the coaches and players who were  equally passionate about what they do..

His 2 loves are basketball (you want him on your side in a pickup game) and Mixed Martial Arts.   He can discuss both at length.   He would go to high school hoop tournament games as a spectator on his day off.   And there wasn't a UFC pay per view that he didn't watch (hack).

Anthony has been a great co-worker.   He's intelligent (can debate both sides of an issue) and has a slightly subversive sense of humor.    He had a great 2 year run here and he will be missed by myself and our viewers.

But life is about change.  In the coming days we will be introducing you to a new member of the WTAP Sports team who is talented, and ready to make a mark in Mid Ohio Valley sports television.
