Fall Fix-Up Season

When the weather breaks, it's time to get those pesky repair projects DONE!

You may have noticed the weather took a turn for drier about two weeks ago.  We had almost seven near-perfect days in a row.

It's conditions like these that inspire wives to start asking, "Honey, when are you going to get around to..."

The list has been growing all summer.  Unfortunately, most of the tasks have to  do with heat and humidity, sweating and effort.

I tend to try to delay those types of projects until the weather is cooler and at least drier.

The current project is the installation of a ceiling vent fan in the bathroom.  This particular model is a dual fan and light combo.

So nice on paper, but not always the smoothest of installations.

This one has been in progress for almost two years.

I had been hoping that the installation would be complete in spring, before the heat and humidity made the attic an oven.   But a puzzle of how to insert the box into a square hole with flanges sticking out.... well, the project stretched into a year.

Now, my daughter swears she will not let me near her bathroom to do a similar installation. "But I've learned so much..."

The current problem is that the unit has two functions, fan and light, but only one wall switch.  That wasn't acceptable to the Mrs.

So, after purchasing a dual switch and installing it, NOW I have to pull a separate wire through that same hot box attic to get the functions separated.

Easy, huh?

I'll report back on my progress after a cool rains chills the attic off this weekend!

Stay tuned.
