A Grave Matter

Need some help locating a relative's grave site? There's a link for that.

I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this website, but it was back in August about a  year ago.  (Perhaps it had something to do with looking up the Jim Morrison grave memorial over in Paris?)

Anyway, a google search turned up "Find A Grave" dot com.  This is basically a search engine that allows you to search by name, birth date, city, graveyard, etc.

And the nice thing is, if there is no memorial for your relative... or if you need help getting a photo record of the grave stone, VOLUNTEERS will snap a picture for you, and then post it to your new memorial!

Ironically, this happened for me on today, of all days!  Today, on Halloween, I got an automated email informing me and linking me back to the memorial I had made on-line for my father.  I had posted a request for some help finding the location and a photo of my late father's grave site.

A man who lives 13 miles or so away from the home town where my father is buried, traveled the few miles and snapped a photo of the headstone.  He added it today, and I got the notice!

So a nice tip of the hat to one Ron Cole, who lives in Michigan not far from the family home. His kindness is appreciated, even if the timing is a bit suspect.  But the photo is greatly appreciated.

You can go look for your relatives too.  Just check it out: http://www.findagrave.com
