Recently, a national feel-good story erupted out of Columbus and took the country by storm.
We all have heard the story and felt good about lending a helping hand to one who was down and out. So, I won't repeat his often-told story here.
It wasn't long before other websites started digging and uncovered the man's unsavory criminal record. But other national shows and advertisers still stepped forward and offered the man work, based upon his voice, great delivery and past experience.
I give them high marks for stepping forward and extending a helping hand.
But I think the REAL story is one that has been overlooked in all our emotion and well-wishes for this man and his future.
The REAL story is how he came to the attention of the public.
ONE MAN saw this "diamond in the rough" and decided to take action. ONE MAN decided to videotape him and post it on a website. ONE MAN, impressed with the potential of a forgotten man, decided to make a difference.
Hundreds of thousands had driven right by, and the videographer could have done so too... and probably had before. But this time he decided to give the man a leg up. He didn't ask permission, or if it was politically correct. He took action. He made a difference, because he couldn't ignor him.
So the real story is the difference that one man made... because he tried.
And THAT is an inspiring story, behind the headlines.
