The Travel Day

Our group departs for London, but first must gather all our travelers together.

Well, as I write this in Philly's airport, it has been a long day.

We met the tour director in Parkersburg and had our 10 couples board the motor coach for Pittsburgh airport.  We were actually EARLY this trip, and had only one couple to board in Marietta.

So the trip moved along well.  A lunch stop in St. Clairsville was a nice break, and we discovered our bus driver was a big "Twilight Zone" TV show fan.  So I hot-footed it across the street to Cracker Barrel and bought a "fan favorite pack" of DVDs from the series as a thank you for his great service.

Most of us ate at McDonald's for the quick lunch. And I kidded our travel friends that no one tried the Long John Silver's Fish and Chips in honor of London.

The check in at Pittsburgh Airport went well, and we were all pleased to see the T-Rex was still in the entryway, along with the Miss Pittsburgh bi-plane.

Our short hop to Philly lasted 42 minutes in the air, barely enough time to get drink service, but we ate a full meal once we arrived and had some time to kill. So I'm writing this blog entry quickly when I learned we had free wi-fi service in the terminal.

Only one surprise, as one guest left her bag behind, but a thoughtful fellow passenger spotted it and brought it to the gate to return it to her.

We have met 17 travelers from Syracuse who are on the motor coach tour with us.  They are a good bunch and appear to be just a little older set of retirees than our group.

We're looking forward to the British Museum, the Planetarium and the Wax Museum, which are all next to one another in a package that our youngest traveler assures us is the best plan for our "free day".  But other attractions like the "London Eye" and guided tours are also on deck already.

All are in good spirits as we board for the trans-Atlantic flight, I will try to sleep, taking Advil PM, and wearing a night mask.  But I never sleep well in airplane seats...I'm over 6 foot and don't fit to relax.

More details from England.  Tally Ho!
