The Worst Weatherman Anywhere is On TV

A recent car company's commercial campaign makes fun of the weatherman.

Another recent development on television has prompted a lot of people to ask me how I feel about "The Worst Weatherman in the World" ad campaign.

It's funny.   If you haven't caught one yet, there's an incompetent weather presenter who is constantly caught in his ineptitude on the air, to his embarrassment.

What it has to do with the value of the car company, I don't know.  But it is an attention-getter.  I've seen at least four different versions on the same theme...."It doesn't matter what the weatherman says".

Now, I recognize that this is a character created by a team of advertising execs in a back room... making him as stupid and ridiculous as, say, Steve Carrel played in "The Office".

The odds of anyone holding that position with that skill level is ridiculous, to say the least.

But I'd love to have been a fly on the wall at the pitch meeting when the team presented their concept to the executives for their approval.

"...But people will remember him because he's SO dumb, and we'll get viewer recognition."

"But aren't you afraid of offending weather persons across the nation in the very broadcast stations that air our commercials?"

"Naw, weathermen don't buy cars..."

"Besides, no one respects the weatherman.... remember that movie that came out a while ago with Nicolas Cage?   No one loves weathermen!"

Yeah, that's why I never went to see that movie, cause I didn't want to acknowledge it.

But I can accept that this new ad campaign is all in fun, right?

I'll remember that the next time I shop for a car.    That's the point, isn't it?  To remember the brand name of the car?  What was it now?
