Bomb Threats, WTAP, and wtap.com

The topic can only be: the recent bomb threats at Parkersburg High School and Parkersburg South High School.

If you are not a regular watcher of WTAP-TV or a regular visitor to our web channel, wtap-dot-com, you've missed a great week of coverage by the dedicated men and women in our News, Production and Engineering departments.

We have run countless crawls across the screens of our three television stations, trying to keep television viewers up-to-date on what was happening and what the status was of each school as events unfolded.

We have sent out any number of E-News Alerts to the folks who have signed up for that service, giving them a heads-up when there was breaking news. You can sign up for this free, no-spam service at wtap-dot-com.

We have posted, re-posted, up-dated and refreshed scores of stories on wtap-dot-com as events have unfolded. We have not waited until our next regularly-scheduled television newscast to get the news you need, out to you.

We have done several live reports from the campuses at both schools, when we were confident that our presence there would not add to the upheaval and confusion.

We have processed nearly 100 of your comments to our various news stories and blogs, from people wanting to express their concerns or merely vent their frustrations. You can comment on any story that appears on our website, and share your thoughts with others visiting the site, simply by clicking on the little balloon that accompanies just about every story we post. You can also go to the Staff Blog section and add your comments to the scores of others that appear there.

A television station and its website are meant to be ways to spread information to the public. But they are also ways for members of the public to share information with the station and each other.

We are glad to have been able to offer this valuable service to the Mid-Ohio Valley during this very frustrating week. And those full-time services remain in place to deal with any situation that comes up in the days and weeks to come.

We thank you for watching WTAP and for taking advantage of everything we have to offer at wtap-dot-com.

(NOTE: Feel free to add comments to this editorial. You can also find many more comments about the recent bombings in my blog entitled, WHAT MAKES BOMB THREAT NEWS, which appears below.)
