Two familiar faces at WTAP-TV are headed south and I wanted to share that with you.
June 20 will be Elizabeth Green’s last day here at WTAP.
Friday, June 27, will be Shanisty Myers’ last day with us. Shanisty has been the producer and anchor of our FOX Parkersburg News at 10 since its inception as an 8-minute news update in the Spring of 2006. She has continued as the anchor of that newscast since it expanded to 30 minutes in the Spring of 2007. She’s brought a real spark to that show and helped it to attract older and younger viewers alike. She will be taking a position at a TV station in
People often ask me “Why does WTAP have trouble keeping people? Are you all a training station for other TV stations?”
In terms of “trouble keeping people,” we now make sure that just about everyone you see on our TV station is with us (and you!) for at least two years. This has not always been the case. But when young people get out of college, and look for their first or second jobs in TV, they look at small markets such as ours, because breaking into larger ones requires some experience. TV stations like WTAP and others are where they get that experience. We’ve had some terrific young people begin or continue their careers here, and who then are able to take the skills they hone here to larger markets, or markets closer to their hometowns. In terms of being a “training station,” yes we are that, just as NBC was a “training station” for Katie Couric on the Today Show before she left to go to the CBS Evening News.
