Dish to Offer WTAP, FOX Parkersburg

Starting on or about June 3

At long last, we have some great news for folks who watch TV largely or ONLY via satellite home delivery systems.

Starting on or about June 3, 2010, Dish plans to offer WTAP’s NBC and FOX Parkersburg stations via satellite to folks living in Wood, Washington, and Pleasants counties.
This is great news for folks who have either given up on trying to receive WTAP free over-the-air, who live in areas that are not served by cable systems, or have otherwise not been able to receive their local stations and the important weather and other emergency information that we provide. Or for those folks may have never considered satellite TV before, since it did not offer local stations, this might be an opportunity to consider Dish.
If you are a Dish customer, living in Wood, Washington or Pleasants counties, who has been receiving NBC or FOX from a faraway station, you will soon be able to ask Dish to switch your service so that you get WTAP and FOX Parkersburg.
There’s just one problem: many Dish customers may not hear this news since they can’t currently see WTAP or FOX Parkersburg. We’ve put this information on our website and we’re going to do everything we can to spread the news to each and every one of those Dish customers, but we probably won’t be able to reach all of them.
That’s where you come in.
If you know of a person who can’t get our stations or who has satellite service, would you do me a favor and tell them the good news?
Let them know that Dish will begin offering WTAP’s NBC and FOX Parkersburg stations starting June 3, and they need to contact their satellite company after that date and ask them to make the switch.
There are many people to thank for this. One is former Washington County Sheriff Bob Schlicher who, several years ago, wrote a letter to Dish and DirecTV, citing the importance of having WTAP on satellite for folks who could not otherwise receive local emergency weather information by TV or radio. It’s taken several years for your request to be fulfilled, Bob, but we’re glad it’s finally happening.
This will mean that our stations will be available free, over-the-air…on cable…and also on satellite.
Again that’s June 3, 2010…WTAP and FOX Parkersburg…on Dish…NOT DirecTV.

I have missed WTAP since last February during the DTV transition and the loss of our cable system, which chose not to upgrade. We get five locals via Dish, but not WTAP, as we live in Tyler County, which falls in the DMA of another NBC station based in Steubenville, Ohio. As our family does the majority of our shopping in the Parkersburg/Marietta area, we are relegated to print/internet and radio ads. WTAP served us for many years, and we miss it very much.

I think this is great. However, I live in Wirt County and you are not making it available to Wirt County, I would love to get WTAP in Wirt County. I am presently a dish subscriber.
