Usually in these editorials, I try to talk about events of the day or developments here at WTAP. This time, however, I’m going to do something a little different. I’m going to do a birthday salute…TO MY MOM! Her name is Betty Sheppard and she’s marking a significant birthday. I won’t tell her age. I’ll leave that up to her. Here’s a historical hint: she was born in the year that Herbert Hoover was elected President. Look it up. Do the math. Everyone thinks they have the world’s greatest Mom. I’m glad of that. But I KNOW that I do! We’ve been good friends all of these years, in addition to being mother and son. Everyone I meet tells me how much they love my Mom. She spent much of her life in retail, so she’s worked with hundreds of folks and met thousands more. She recently retired for about the fourth or fifth time. The only thing I hate about her retirement is that now I don’t get to take her to work at the Volunteer Action Center four mornings a week. But she’s certainly earned her retirement. So Mom…here’s to you! We love you and wish you many more birthdays! That’s this week’s editorial. -------- Do you know my Mom? Or want to share a story about your Mother? Please, log in and post it here. I might share your story in a future editorial!
