Regional MLB Teams All Have Great Seasons

I'm not a huge baseball fan, but you have to be happy about the way all three of the major league teams in our region have played this season. For the first time in many years, fans of the Reds, the Pirates and the Indians ALL have something to cheer about. The Reds made it all the way to the one-game National League wildcard play-off, before bowing out to the Pirates. The Indians made it all the way to the one-game American League wildcard play-off, before losing to the Tampa Rays. The Indians were the 5th worst team in the majors in 2012. Having gotten former Parkersburg resident, Nick Swisher, over the winter, the Indians totally turned themselves around this year, winning more than 90 games. The Pirates posted their first winning season in more than 20 years…and kept on winning. Right now they’re battling against the St. Louis Cardinals to keep their season alive. Even though the season is over for the Reds and the Indians, they can both be proud of the way they played this season. All three teams appear to be establishing a solid base on which they can build next year, and the year after that. It's been fun following the fortunes of Nick Swisher all season long. We thank United Bank for sponsoring our "Nick & The Tribe" reports each day here on TV and also on our webchannel, We'll have the World Series coming up in a couple of weeks on FOX Parkersburg. And that’s the ONLY place you’ll be able see the World Series locally, in High Definition. We hope the Pirates will be there. But even if they're not, we'll look forward to seeing all three regional teams in action, next Spring, when it's time to "Play Ball" once again. That's this week's editorial.
