Some applause for one of our staff members, and a farewell to another.
First, I want to add my congratulations to those of the Associated Press of the Virginias and folks in this area, for the AP’s Lifetime Achievement Award recently bestowed on our own Todd Baucher.
Todd has been with WTAP and TheNewsCenter since 1980, covering every type of news story you can imagine…from the tragic to the mundane.
Todd brings a great enthusiasm to everything he does and is a valuable resource to the newer people in our newsroom.
He can give them background information about stories they are about to cover, so that the reporters have some perspective, and are able to bring that to our viewers.
Todd and I worked together here at WTAP when there were just four people in the newsroom.
The staff, and the number of newscasts…not to mention the internet…have all increased since then.
News Director John Fortney nominated Todd for this award, which he received last weekend in Charlottesville.
At that same event, our entire news department also received four other awards for their news and sports coverage during the past year.
We’re proud of all of them for their efforts.
We’re also saying good-bye to a long-time member of TheNewsCenter this weekend.
Kitty Lisk is leaving us after having been involved in our sales department for the past 15 years.
Kitty was a friend long before she started working here and became more of one since then.
We wish her all the best and we’ll try to take as good of care of her clients as she did.
