1 dead, 1 injured in single-car wreck in Wood County

MINERAL WELLS, W. Va. (WTAP) - One person is dead and another injured after a single car wreck on Interstate 77, according to Wood County Sheriff's Department.

It happened around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon near mile-marker 166 on I-77, just south of Mineral Wells. Wood County Sheriff and Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.

Wood County Sheriff Steve Stephens confirmed the driver, 65 year-old Zella Keen, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, 57 year-old Patricia Desamtos, was transported to Camden Clark Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The Wood County Sheriff's crash team is still investigating. Stephens says Keen was driving southbound when her 2008 Dodge Caliber hydroplaned, swerved into the median and crashed, coming to rest on the northbound side.

Both occupants are from Gassaway, West Virginia.
