Wrong-way driver dies in head-on crash outside Pomeroy

POMEROY, Ohio - UPDATE: 12/1/2016 10:15 A.M.

A head-on collision on Route 7 outside Pomeroy yesterday afternoon that left one man dead and another hospitalized was the result of a wrong-way driver.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol in Gallipolis says 84-year-old John Blake of Middleport was driving west in the eastbound lane of Route 7 when his Mercury Grand Marquis struck a Honda Civic driven by 33-year-old Adam Doczi of Pomeroy.

Blake died in the crash.

Doczi was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington. A hospital spokeswoman says he is in satisfactory condition.

The Highway Patrol could not say how long before the crash Blake had been traveling in the wrong direction.

The crash happened about 1:15 p.m. near the intersection of Route 33, and the highway was closed for approximately two hours.

The accident remains under investigation.

One person was killed today in a head-on collision outside Pomeroy in Meigs County.

The Meigs County sheriff told our sister station WSAZ that two vehicles collided head-on about 2 p.m. today at the intersection of Ohio Route 7 and U.S. Route 33 of the Pomeroy bypass.

The condition of the second drive is not known.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
