PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - The second annual Launchpad competition kicked off Tuesday afternoon.
Thirteen entrepreneurs were selected out of the original 22 applicants that originally applied, according to the President of the Mid-Ohio Valley Chamber of Commerce.
She says any new business that has been open for less than two years is allowed to apply.
One man from Ravenswood says his Bee Haven Supply store has been open for a little over year, and he thought winning this competition could really boost his business.
Owner of Bee Haven Supply, Joseph Blackhurst, says, "We're a small family business, we're up and coming. This money that we could potentially win would be a tremendous way for me to expand much faster than I was originally hoping for. My wife and I along with our five soon to be six children, we're like the bee keeping brady bunch."
The winner of the competition was granted $5,000 to go toward their new business.
Between the judges and the public, Pastry & Petals bakery shop out of Cairo, West Virginia was named the winner for this year’s Launchpad.
