The 6th Annual West Virginia State Championship Disc Golf Tournament took place right here in our own backyard.

Eighty-five players participated in the tournament Saturday, at the Veterans Memorial Park in Williamstown.

The sport is played much like traditional golf. Instead of balls and club, players use a flying disc or frisbee.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Disc Golf Club runs several events during the year and runs doubles at the Veterans Park Thursday at 6 p.m. invite’s all newcomers to the game to come out and join them.

Some argue it's becoming a popular sport in the Mid-Ohio Valley.

“Disc Golf is a lot of fun it is great exercise, we have a fantastic community of people here and it's just really a great time,” says Scott VanMeter.

If you want to pick up the sport, there are more than five disc golf courses in the MOV.
