BELPRE, Ohio (WTAP) - Two judges from a prestigious competition paid Belpre a visit Monday morning.
America in Bloom in a non-profit that envisions communities across the country as welcoming and vibrant places to work, live and play. Nearly 250 communities from 41 states have participated in the program.
This is Belpre's fifth year as a participant in the competition and has won awards in years past.
Judges will rate the community's heritage, gardens and environmental efforts. Their tour kicked off at Florence Street and included other highlights, like the Belpre Historical Society.
"The people we've talked to are very proud of this town. They want to show it to us and tell us all about it. Belpre: where it is and what's happening. It's an exciting thing. It's a good American community and a very strong candidate in this competition," said Barbara Vincentsen, an America in Bloom judge.
Winners will be announced in early October.
