UPDATE: Belpre man charged after 100 mph pursuit on I-77 Wednesday

Parkersburg Police say a man who led officers on a high-speed pursuit Wednesday was wanted on two felony warrants in Athens County.

Timothy Ray Albright, 55, of Belpre, was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court after his arrest on a charge of fleeing with reckless indifference.

Police Chief Joseph Martin says the pursuit began about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday after officers went to the south Parkersburg Wal-Mart store to investigate a shoplifting complaint.

Martin says Albright drove away, leading officers onto Lost Pavement Road and then to Pike Street. The chase continued south on I-77 at speeds exceeding 100 mph.

Albright was taken into custody after stopping his vehicle near the Mineral Wells rest area.

He's being held on a $10,000 bond pending his extradition to Ohio.

The chase was one of two that took place nearly simultaneously Wednesday afternoon.

Two people - a Parkersburg man and a Georgia man - have been charged with misdemeanor counts of fleeing from officers, and authorities are looking for a third suspect after a chase that began shortly before 2 p.m. in Marietta and ended on Five Mile Run Road in Wood County.


UPDATE: 6/14/18 10 A.M.

One of two men arrested following a high-speed police pursuit on Interstate 77 Wednesday afternoon remains in jail.

Wood County sheriff's deputies arrested Christopher Sneed, 20, of Parkersburg, and Tavaris Williams, 29, of Conley, Ga., in the vicinity of Ashby Ridge Road after they got out of their car and ran from authorities.

A third suspect remains at large.

Sneed and Williams were arraigned Wednesday night in Wood County Magistrate Court on misdemeanor charges of fleeing from officers.

Sneed posted at $5,000 bond and was released.

Williams' bond was also set at $5,000. He remains in the North Central Regional Jail.

Marietta Police say the pursuit began about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday after officers identified the men as possible suspects in a fraudulent check scheme and attempted to stop their vehicle.

The pursuit continued out of Marietta and onto I-77 south into West Virginia.

According to a criminal complaint in magistrate court, the suspects' vehicle left I-77 at Emerson Avenue and headed north on Route 2 before turning onto to Five Mile Run Road where they abandoned they vehicle and ran into the woods.


UPDATE: 06/13/18 7:45 P.M.

The Wood County Sheriff's Office has released the identities of two people in custody after a car chase starts in Marietta and ends in Wood County.

Christopher Sneed, of Parkersburg, is charged with fleeing. He is expected to be arraigned Wednesday night.

Tavaris Williams, of Conley, Georgia, is charged with fleeing. He is expected to be arraigned Wednesday night.

Deputies are looking for a third person in connection with the chase.


UPDATE: 6/13/18 3 P.M.

Two people are in custody and police continue to look for a third person following Wednesday afternoon's high-speed pursuit than began in Marietta and ended in Wood County.

A Wood County 911 Center dispatcher supervisor says Wood County sheriff's deputies and Marietta police officers are still looking for a suspect in the 800 block of Ashby Ridge Road.

Authorities say the suspects abandoned their vehicle on 5 Mile Run Road after leaving Interstate 77 at the Emerson Avenue exit and heading north on Route 2.

Authorities have not released information about the suspects or the reason behind the pursuit.

UPDATE: 6/13/18 2:40 P.M.

Nearly simultaneous but unrelated pursuits on Interstate 77 kept multiple law-enforcement agencies busy Wednesday afternoon.

According to a Wood County 911 Center dispatch supervisor, officers have a suspect from one of the pursuits in custody and they're continuing to search for at least one suspect in the other chase.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirms troopers were involved in a pursuit initiated by Marietta Police that continued onto Interstate 77 into West Virginia.

It began about 1:40 p.m.

An OSHP spokesman says troopers left the pursuit when the suspect vehicle crossed the state line and was picked up by authorities in West Virginia.

The 911 center says the suspect vehicle exited I-77 at Emerson Avenue and headed north before turning onto 5 Mile Run Road, where the driver abandoned the vehicle.

Wood County sheriff's deputies are currently using K9s as they look for the driver in the area.

The second pursuit began in Parkersburg about 2:10 p.m. and may have involved a shoplifting suspect.

It ended on Interstate 77 south of the Mineral Wells rest area with at least one person taken into custody, according to the 911 center.
