BELPRE, WV (WTAP)-- The public will get an opportunity to vote on a proposed fire levy in Belpre after Monday evening's council action.
Belpre City Council passed the measure Monday evening to place a 1.75 mil levy onto the ballot this fall.
The measure will raise almost $210,000 for the city to help support the fire department.
Finance Committee chairperson Susan Abdella says the average household would pay $60 per $100,000 of property valuation. For example, the owner of a property with a valuation of $200,000 would pay an additional $120 annually.
Abdella says other revenue streams that have supported the fire department, like the Bingo Hall operation, have been dwindling over the years, requiring the city to come up with this funding soon.
