BELPRE, Ohio (WTAP) - The Belpre Board of Education has named Melcie Wells as its interim treasurer.
It was decided during the BOE's special meeting Wednesday. She's taking over for Missy Griffith. In 2013, Griffith became treasurer. She's now leaving for another job in the Columbus-area. Her last day is January 31, 2017.
The board later went into executive session to discuss a permanent replacement.
The Belpre Board of Education is starting the calendar year off with an organizational meeting.
During this time, they elected a president and vice president. Those positions will go to Fred Meredith and Brenda Church, respectively.
They also discussed which members will be assigned to committees. Another one of their plans is to have some of their meetings in other locations, like the senior center, to encourage more public participation.
"Our board actually rotates the officers every year. Everyone gets their chance to be vice president and president of the board and that makes it pretty interesting. It really gets the board members involved on a different leve," said Tony Dunn, Belpre City Schools Superintendent.
At the next meeting, the board says it will discuss replacing treasurer Missy Griffith. She took a job with a school in Columbus.
