Brookdale Senior Living resident celebrates 111th birthday

A long time Marietta resident, Mary Niceswanger, turned one-hundred and eleven.

The Brookdale Senior Living facility helped her celebrate by throwing her a party, surrounded by her family and friends.

Born August 3rd 1906, Mary's the second oldest of eleven siblings.

Friends and relatives describe her as a very independent woman and a good cook.

“She worked a lot of the college dormitories and sororities as a cook and they just loved her food and then probably the last place she worked was for the senior center. She cooked for them, and she said I cook for those old people down there, she was older than them,” says Melvin Barth, Mary's son-in-law.

The birthday girl took some time away from her party to share some thoughts with us.

“I don't understand why. I am here for something and God knows best, I guess, so we'll do the best we can,” says Niceswanger.
