Crash in Athens injures woman, sheriff's deputy

ATHENS, Ohio (WTAP) - An Athens County sheriff's deputy responding to an emergency call was involved in a collision Sunday night that sent the deputy and a woman to the hospital.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Deputy J.A. Banks’ marked Ford F-150 hit a car that failed to stop at a red light.

The crash happened about 10:30 p.m. Sunday Richland Avenue, south of the Ohio University campus.

Stacy Stanley, 20, of Athens, was thrown from her car in the crash.

She was treated at OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital in Athens and then transferred by helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. No information on her condition was available on Monday.

Troopers say Banks’ truck, which was headed south, overturned in the crash and slid into a bridge. They say he was treated for minor injuries at O’Bleness Hospital.

The patrol says the crash remains under investigation.
