BELPRE, Ohio (WTAP) - Research shows that seven in ten people use their smartphone while driving. One campaign is hoping to turn those numbers around.

It's called "It Can Wait" and is sponsored by AT&T. The cell phone company was at Memorial Health System's Belpre campus to hammer home their message.

They brought a virtual reality simulator to show the dangers of using electronic devices behind the wheel.

Through a headset, participants got a 360 degree view of how quickly something can go wrong.

"We want people to understand how quickly something can happen, so being here today, having people get the opportunity to experience what that's like firsthand we think we'll probably be something that hits home a little easier," said Jennifer Offenberger, Director of Marketing for MHS.
