Wood County students shop for Christmas gifts with firefighters

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Christmas came early for some lucky students at Kanawha Elementary School thanks to a local fire department.

The Eastwood Volunteer Fire Department held its annual 'Shop with a Firefighter' event Friday and Saturday night at Walmart in south Parkersburg.

The department gave $100 gift cards to a handful of boys and girls from Kanawha Elementary to use at the store.

Kelley Goodwin, the vice president of the fire department, says they're happy to make this time of the year special for the students.

She also encourages the public to donate to the cause.

"We have a shop with a firefighter account at Williamstown Bank so if anybody is interested and they want to give to that account it's at Williamstown Bank they're free to go in there and donate to it," she said.
