One person hospitalized in explosion at Athens apartment building

ATHENS, Oh. (WTAP) - One person is hospitalized after an explosion at an apartment building in Athens on Sunday evening.

The explosion happened around 5:15 P.M., just blocks away from Ohio University, at an apartment building at 104 West Union Street in Athens.

A total of seven tenants in that building are displaced as of Monday morning.

One person was sent to O’Bleness Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.

That person's name and their condition have not yet been released.

Crews from Columbia Gas of Ohio are investigating the incident.

A Columbia Gas spokesman said, so far, crews have not found any gas leaks leading up the meter serving the building impacted, or in the surrounding areas.
