Fallen law enforcement remembered in Washington County

MARIETTA, Oh. (WTAP) - Dozens gather in Marietta to honor law enforcement from all across Washington County.

Washington County Sheriffs Department, Marietta Police and Beverly Police attended the annual Fallen Heroes ceremony at the City Building.

The memorial honors all lives lost in the line of duty in 2017.

The Sheriff's Office Honor Guard led a procession of memorial wreaths for each department.

"This day, May 15, means a lot. It's just for us to remember the ones who've come before us," WCSO Sergeant Bryan Reeder said, "and given their lives in the line of duty and we're here to celebrate their lives."

"You see a police officer, you see a fireman, you see anybody in public service," said Joshua Staats, lieutenant for the Washington-Noble-Morgan County Major Crimes Task Force, "just thank them for the job they do everyday."

Washington County Sheriff's Office handed out awards after the ceremony for outstanding efforts by both officers and civilians in 2017.
