Fire destroys carport and vehicle at Liberty St. home in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - A carport and the vehicle inside it were destroyed in a fire Saturday night in Parkersburg.

Fire Chief Jason Matthews says the fire broke out around 10:30 P.M. Saturday on Liberty Street in Parkersburg.

Matthews says the garage near the carport and another car nearby were also damaged in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, though Matthews says they believe the car was set on fire, because there were no other heat sources in the carport.

Matthews says the vehicle had not been moved in a long time.

There were reports of explosions, but Matthews says it was each of the tires blowing out.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire.
