POCAHONTAS CO., W.Va. - A Florida woman arrested in rural West Virginia with her dead 11-year-old daughter in her truck has reportedly confessed to killing the girl.
Local media in Jacksonville, Florida say 37-year-old Erica Newsome told detectives she killed her daughter and was abusive to her.
Newsome crashed her car Sunday in a rural area of Pocahontas County, West Virginia.
Witnesses told police they saw her drag her child's body from her car into the woods after the crash.
Police say the child did not die in the accident.
Newsome told investigators she put her daughter's lifeless body in the truck on Friday, and was driving to Buffalo, New York, where her ex-husband lives.
Investigators have been at Newsome's trailer home in Jacksonville, Florida, searching for evidence.
Skyler Philpot, who lives next door to Newsome’s trailer, said,
"We were home when it happened and we didn't hear anything. Not a scream, nothing falling over, no loud bangs, no gun shots, nothing."
Newsome remains in the Tygart Valley, West Virginia Regional Jail on charges of concealing her daughter's body.
