From dolls to dogs-and cats-local pet resort plans move to doll factory

BELPRE, Oh.-(WTAP) Boxer's Bed and Biscuits has outgrown two locations-one in Little Hocking and its current site on Braun Road in Belpre-since it first opened for business in 2011.

It's been just a little longer than that since the former Middletown Doll factory building became vacant.

Boxer's owner says the Middleton site is a perfect location for her growing business to grow even further and add more services.

"We're going to have a 24-hour emergency vet, so our clients and community can look forward to having affordable veterinarian care at any time of day," says owner Angie Beck. "On the front side, we'll have our traditional boarding, day care and grooming. We're going to have an indoor pool and family suites, because more and more people are going to have multi-dog families."

Boxer's serves as a resort of sorts for dogs and cats while their owners are away. Beck says the business wanted to stay in Belpre, although it might someday expand to other locations.

"We've been asked to come to Morgantown, we've been asked to come to Athens, so those are locations we are considering. For now, our focus is to get this one up and running, so we have an excellent model to duplicate."

The move depends on a zoning change to commercial from manufacturing by Belpre City Council.
