VIENNA, W. Va. (WTAP) - A local mall continues its mission to make sure the community has the tools to be safe.
Grand Central Mall hosted its annual Safety Day.
The family friendly event featured educational demonstrations put on by twenty local safety organizations.
The mall's marketing director says the event was organized after two young girls died in a local fire.
Parkersburg Fire Chief, Jason Matthews, attended the event. He says
it's important for kids to be educated about safety.
"Well you definitely want to emphasize the fire safety to them when they're young," he said.
"And promote it throughout, as they get older and when they do become adults they'll know know about fire safety, they'll know what to do if there is a fire or how to prevent fires."
Participating organizations included the American Red Cross and the Vienna Police Department.
The event is in its 6th year.
