Humane Society of Parkersburg collecting donations for Pet Appreciation Week

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - This week is National Pet Appreciation Week, and to recognize it, One Community Federal Credit Union is collecting items to donate to the Humane Society of Parkersburg.

The Credit Union has been collecting items such as canned dog and cat food, dry food, cat litter, treats, laundry detergent, and other cleaning items all week.

Today, volunteers for the Humane Society stopped by the Credit Union and brought some furry friends with them to help accept donations.

Each person who donates an item is entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card courtesy of Der Daug Haus.

So far, dozens of people have donated, and both members of the Credit Union and the Humane Society say they're happy to be supporting such a great cause.

"We noticed that it was Pet Appreciation Week this week, so we wanted to get involved in the community for a great cause so we contacted them," said Traci Pierson, a team member of One Community Federal Credit Union.

"I just want to thank the Credit Union for doing this," said Carrie Roe, one of the volunteers for the Humane Society. "The business outreach for our shelter is phenomenal and it really makes a difference if everybody does a little bit. It makes a big difference in our shelter for our animals."

If you would like to donate, you can head to the Credit Union, located on 5th Street in Parkersburg, during their business hours this weekend, or stop by the Humane Society.
