Vincent, Ohio (WTAP) - February's winner of the Jan Dils' Golden Apple Award is Allen Clark, an agriculture teacher at Warren High School.
On Wednesday, the students and staff surprised Allen Clark with the award in a ceremony at Warren High School.
Former student Tara Snider nominated him for always going "the extra mile," and being on call for his students.
Mr. Clark has been teaching at Warren for 43 years.
A bit of emotions filled the room as Mr. Clark prepares to retire from teaching at the end of this year, and he told us what he loves most about teaching:
"The association with high school students. I know some people fear being in a classroom with high students, but it's something I have enjoyed. And the opportunity to see students grow from what they are when they're freshmen. And the ones who stay with me for four years. And we get to be involved in a lot of different activities, whether it be classroom or community or through the FFA. So yeah, it's going to be a change. It will be a little sad to go."
Mr. Clark says his son was a recipient of the Jan Dils' Golden Apple Award just a few months ago.
And he is humbled that he was chosen this month.
