MINERAL WELLS, W.Va. (WTAP) - The Jan Dils Golden Apple Winner for October is particularly special.
Before passing away, Scott McCormick taught for 35 years in Mineral Wells. He left behind a legacy that impacted a majority of his students into adulthood.
McCormick was the first teacher to arrive at school and the last to leave each day. When a student lost their passion for learning, he'd help them find it again with humor and compassion.
He could be found at many school sporting events and even some family functions.
He encouraged both his students and colleagues and was known as an adviser and a friend.
"He was a leader and friend to all of us. He cared about all of you. He wants you to get a college education and to live life big. He lived life big. He enjoyed every moment of his teaching career," said Jill Carden, a friend of McCormick's and a teacher at Mineral Wells Elementary School.
McCormick's family will receive a plaque in his honor.
