BELPRE, Ohio (WTAP) Belpre Assistant Fire Chief, Jeff Rafferty, is this month's Hometown Hero.
He's been a firefighter for over 30 years now.
Rafferty chose the career after his high school held a "Government Day" during his senior year.
He has gained valuable experience over the decades including responding to the Shell Plant explosion of 1994.
Rafferty says he has seen plenty of hardship throughout his career, but he still loves his job.
Jeff Rafferty, Assistant Chief of the Belpre Fire Department, said, "I like giving back to the community, and I found something that I truly love to do.
It doesn't seem like a job.
It's something fun, something I enjoy.
I'd like to thank my family because they put up with me getting up at all hours of the morning, you know and leaving, but most of all, you know, it's a big thank you to the community for this."
Rafferty also thanks Chief Walker for allowing him to join the department 32 years ago.
