PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Equifax, a well-known consumer credit reporting agency, informed the public that 143 million customers were compromised this summer.

A consumer credit counseling company in the Mid-Ohio Valley had some tips about how to protect yourself from fraud.
He says unlike other popular breaches with department stores, Equifax tracks more personal information.
Shelene Shrewsbury, who counsels consumers on credit fraud says, "A time like this, where individuals really need to be paying attention to everything on their credit report, on their bank statement, watching those credit card statements. Making sure the charges that are showing are legitimate charges."
