Local group donates more than $60,000 to community

MARIETTA, OHIO (WTAP)- The Marietta Welfare League granted its largest amount yet during its annual grant giveaway.

The League hosted its community grant giveaway at the Betsey Mills Club in Marietta where $62,515.75 dollars was donated to local organizations throughout the county.

This year 38 different organizations received funding which will go back to serving those in Washington County in one way or another.

When receiving the checks at the reception, organizations would share ways they have helped the community in the past and plans of what the grant money would go towards.

Jane Crumrine, Chairman of the Finance Committee, explained their excitement of the event and what the money will be going towards. “We had a lot of feeding children, after school programs but we were able to give to the arts and some other community programs. Our profits come from the Marietta welfare league shop at Marietta memorial hospital and from that we decide how much we can scrap and give away. This is our big payoff; we wait all year for this.”

The grant money is earned through annual fund raisers like the fall auction and the League shop at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
