MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - A 95-year-old woman who is also a World War II veteran is March's Mom of the Month.
Elah Cassady was born November 20,1920 and raised in Williamstown. During World War II, she enlisted as a nurse in the Navy.
When the war was over, she got married went on to have six children. One of her sons, Larry, is the one that nominated her.
When the WTAP News crew showed up at her apartment with a beautiful bouquet from Crown Florals, she said she was finally glad to know what Larry had been plotting!
"I never had any idea that he'd do such a thing as that and he just kept putting me off this morning and putting me off. Now I know what he's been up to," said Elah.
Larry gushed about his mother and what a positive influence she's had on him and all his siblings.
"She has taught us kids to have patience and take care of one another. Family is always first," said Woods.
Elah has 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
