MARIETTA, Oh. (WTAP) - A local park in Marietta will soon see some necessary upgrades and maintenance.
The city received a capital improvement award of $500,000 from the Ohio House to use for a Community Parks, Recreation and Conservation project. That project involves upgrades to Muskingum Park.
City Councilwoman Cindy Oxender says a lot of work went into getting these funds.
"We have not seen a capital appropriation in eight or nine years so this is pretty exciting for the city of Marietta," Oxender said, "and what we'll be doing is the monies will go toward needed infrastructure, some ADA updating for sidewalks, the gazebo. We're also including the start westward monument so we're real excited about this."
Oxender says they expect work on the park to begin by the end of the year.
