MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A dad from Mason County is accused of injuring his son by smacking him in the face "because he would not eat the toppings on his pizza."

Kevin Durst, 39, of Leon is charged with child abuse resulting in injury.

According to court records, Durst hit his 8-year-old son multiple times causing contusions. The father also allegedly "smacked his son on the left side of his torso." Deputies say it appeared the child had a contusion on his side consistent with a hand print.

The boy also had contusions on his legs, arms, and both of his ears "where Mr. Durst had smacked him and grabbed him."

Deputies say the victim's mom brought him to the Mason County sheriff's office to file a report.

The child told officers he was allegedly abused because he would not eat pizza toppings. He also said his dad dragged him into the bathroom by his arm and hit him with his hand.

The alleged abuse happened at a home on Evans Road in Leon.

Durst was taken to jail and released on bond.
