VIENNA, W.Va.-(WTAP) Lynn Fury has been teaching in Wood County for 35 years. She's spent 25 of them at Neale Elementary.
She makes sure her students know they can always come to her with anything and has even pulled struggling students aside, just to let them know that everything will be okay.
She treats her students as her own kids and doesn't like to let them get away after they leave her classroom. She follows and keeps in touch with several of them.
Fury will retire when this school year ends. She says winning this award is one way to go out with a bang.
"I love it. It's wonderful that someone has appreciated what I've done all these years. I've always wanted to be a teacher, I don't know what started that. I used to play school when i was little and it's just always something I knew I would do. Plus, I wanted to help other people," Fury said.
This is the last award for the 2015-2016 school year. When the next school year begins, you can nominate your favorite teacher ... and see all of this year's winners at thenewscenter.tv.
