UPDATE: Memorial Health System cuts 15 jobs, reassigns about 100 workers

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - UPDATE: 01/31/18

Memorial Health System announced Wednesday afternoon it has reduced its workforce by 15 positions and reassigned about 100 workers as part of a reorganization effort.

CEO Scott Cantley is calling it a realignment that focuses on efficiency across the company's operations.

"Certainly we recognize that any impact on one individual is a really major deal for that individual and that family," Cantley said.

"And so we have a great group of employees here and we're hopeful that most of our employees that we have spoken with continue to be a part of our system and continue to help us strive to be a great service to our community."

Cantley says one of the reasons in the reduction is due to drawing back from a federal program intended to reduce Medicare costs. As a result, the company asked some registered nurses to move from primary care settings to hospital settings within the system.

The number of jobs lost could rise as some employees have yet to make decisions on their futures with the company.

The company, which operates Marietta Memorial Hospital, Selby General Hospital, the new Belpre Medical Campus and other health-care facilities in Washington County, began notifying employees about the changes on Friday.

Even with the reduction in staff, the company, which has nearly 3,000 employees, remains Washington County's No. 1 employer.
