PARKERSBURG, W.Va.-(WTAP) 10/25/2017

We've learned the head of the company that owns the plastics recycling site that has now been on fire for several days, also owns several other plastics and recycling facilities throughout the area-and across the country.

In fact, we were on hand in 2011 when Dr. Saurabh Niak was in Parkersburg, to announce his acquisition of the former Corning and Schott Glass, Atlas Steel, and Ideal Corrugated Box manufacturing sites.

We also reported at the time that his company, Intercontinental-Export-Import (IEI), was also buying properties in Washington, West Virginia in Wood County, as well as Vienna and Ravenswood.

The company's website says Niak began the company in 1987, to purchase and sell recycled plastics in the U.S. and around the world.

The company works with recycling various types of chemical materials, including polymers, solvents and adhesives.

Lawrence Messina, Spokesman for the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, said at a news conference Wednesday morning that state officials are reaching out to the company.

Messina could not, however, say whether there has been any direct contact with Niak himself.
